Facebook Marketplace Not Working? How to Fix It

Diagnose a missing Marketplace entry, wrong results, listing or message failures, restrictions, device errors, and possible outages by symptom.

Updated

Name the symptom before changing anything

A missing Marketplace entry, empty results, a rejected listing, a message failure, and a page that will not load are different problems. Do not start by reinstalling the app or clearing all browser data; first identify which branch matches what you can observe.

Five separate branches for diagnosing Facebook Marketplace problemsA five-branch diagnostic map. Start by naming the exact symptom. A one-device loading problem calls for app, browser, and network comparison. Empty or wrong results call for current search-location and filter checks. A missing tab calls for the official eligibility page. Denied access or removed listings call for the account restriction and review notice. Broad Facebook failure calls for cross-device and network comparison before considering a wider outage.Name the exact symptomStart with evidence, not cacheDevice / networkCompare surfaces and connectionSearch locationReview location and filters shownEligibilityMissing tab: check official rulesRestriction / reviewRead the signed-in account noticePossible wider outageCompare devices and networks firstDifferent symptom, different evidence.A missing tab, empty results, a rejected listing, and a loading error are not the same problem.
Name the symptom before changing settings. Device/network, search location, eligibility, restrictions, and a wider outage require different checks.

Before changing settings, record the exact error text, the affected listing or screen, the date and time, the device and app/browser version, and whether Facebook and Marketplace work on another safe surface. That evidence prevents one symptom from being mistaken for another and helps if you need to report the problem.

Marketplace entry missing or access denied

Start with the signed-in account, not device cleanup.

  • Confirm you are using the intended main Facebook profile rather than an additional profile.
  • Open Meta's current Marketplace eligibility page and compare the account with the supported-country, adult, and active-account requirements shown there. Eligibility rules can change, so the official page is the authority.
  • Read any access notice. Meta distinguishes access that is at risk, limited, or suspended and provides account-specific next steps on its Marketplace restriction page.
  • If a review action is offered, use it from the affected account. A missing entry alone does not reveal whether eligibility, region, profile type, or a restriction is responsible.

For first-time access questions, continue with how to get Marketplace.

Listings are empty, wrong, or too far away

First remove narrow category or price filters and confirm the search terms. Then inspect any Marketplace location or distance control currently shown to the affected account.

A dated read-only interface observation on August 29, 2026 found that Marketplace can show in-product search-location and distance controls. That is an observation, not an official explanation for every empty feed: labels, placement, availability, and effect can vary by account, platform, region, and rollout. Recheck the controls on the screen you have rather than following a screenshot mechanically.

Device Location Services are separate. Meta's Location Services instructions describe Facebook's access to the phone's operating-system location; they do not establish how Marketplace chooses its search area. Check the device permission only when Facebook is trying to use device location. The Marketplace local-only guide covers the in-product search-area workflow in more detail.

A listing cannot be posted, was removed, or is invisible

Treat this as a listing or policy branch rather than a cache problem.

  1. Open the listing status and the notification sent to the affected account.
  2. Read the stated policy or Commerce-policy reason; do not guess from the symptom.
  3. Correct inaccurate category, description, price, image, or item details only when the notice identifies something you can legitimately fix.
  4. Use the review or appeal action if Facebook offers one. Reposting the same item repeatedly can obscure the original evidence and does not resolve an account-level decision.

If the listing says active but other people cannot find it, preserve its URL and status, check whether filters or location explain the difference, and include both views in a problem report.

Marketplace messages do not send

Check whether ordinary Facebook or Messenger messages work, then read the exact Marketplace error. Meta lists several possible categories, including different-country conditions, sending too many messages, removed Marketplace access, and listing or message policy issues. Those are possibilities, not a diagnosis from the symptom alone.

Use Meta's Marketplace messaging help and follow any account notice. If a rate or policy limit is shown, slow down rather than sending the same message repeatedly. If ordinary messages fail too, diagnose the broader Messenger or account problem.

One device or app fails while another works

This pattern points to a local app, browser, connection, or device branch, though comparison does not prove the exact cause.

Try reversible checks in this order:

  1. Close and reopen Facebook, then retry once.
  2. Switch between a trusted Wi-Fi and mobile connection if available.
  3. Compare the Facebook app with facebook.com in a supported browser.
  4. Update the app and operating system through their official stores or settings.
  5. Restart the device.

Only after those comparisons should you consider the platform-specific steps in clearing Facebook's cache. Preserve access to your password and recovery methods before clearing app storage, cookies, or browser data, because those actions can sign you out and remove local state. Reinstalling repeatedly is not useful evidence about an eligibility or restriction problem.

Facebook broadly fails on multiple surfaces

If the feed, messages, and Marketplace fail across more than one device or network, a wider service problem becomes more plausible. One account or one error screen is not enough to establish an outage.

Compare another device or browser and another network without sharing credentials. Then use the Facebook outage guide to check official or reputable status signals. While a wider incident remains possible, avoid repeated password resets, appeals, or destructive cleanup that cannot repair a platform-side failure.

Report a reproducible product problem

If the same generic loading or error state survives the relevant branch checks, use Meta's Report a problem instructions. Include:

  • the exact message and screen;
  • the affected listing URL or Marketplace section;
  • device, operating system, and app/browser version;
  • date, time, and network;
  • whether the app, browser, another device, or the rest of Facebook works;
  • the reversible checks already tried.

Do not call a phone number found in search results or an unsolicited message. A supposed support agent cannot fix Marketplace by taking remote control, receiving a security code, or charging a gift-card or cryptocurrency fee.
