Facebook renames these menus periodically. If a label does not match, read the screen you are on rather than forcing this exact wording.

Android

  1. Open your phone's Settings, not the Facebook app itself.
  2. Go to AppsFacebookStorage & cache.
  3. Tap Clear cache. This is separate from "Clear storage" — cache alone will not log you out or remove saved data; clearing storage will.
  4. Reopen Facebook. The first load will be slower as content re-downloads.

iPhone

iOS does not expose a per-app cache clear the way Android does. The equivalent is:

  1. Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Facebook → Offload App. This removes the app but keeps its documents and data, then reinstalls a fresh copy from the App Store.
  2. If that does not resolve it, a full delete and reinstall clears everything, but this does log you out and you will need your password again.

Desktop browser

  1. Open your browser's clear-browsing-data screen (chrome://settings/clearBrowserData in Chrome, similar in others).
  2. Select Cached images and files — leave cookies unchecked if you want to stay logged in.
  3. Set the time range to All time for a full clear, or a shorter range if the problem is recent.
  4. Reload facebook.com.

When to reach for this

Cache clearing is the right first move for:

  • A feed that shows the same stale posts repeatedly.
  • Photos or profile pictures that will not load or show as broken.
  • A setting you changed that does not appear to have taken effect.
  • The app or site behaving as if it is running an old version despite an update.

It is not the fix for a login failure, a hacked account, or content that is genuinely not loading server-side — connection problems and checking whether Facebook itself is down cover those separately.

Official source

Meta's general troubleshooting guidance covers app and browser behaviour. Platform-specific cache controls (Android, iOS, and each browser) are documented by their respective manufacturers, since Facebook does not control that layer of the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does clearing cache delete my Facebook account or data?
No. Cache is temporary local storage on your device. Clearing it removes nothing from your account — it only forces the app or browser to re-download content fresh.
Will I be logged out after clearing cache?
On Android, clearing 'storage' (not just cache) can log you out; clearing cache alone usually does not. On iOS there is no separate cache clear — you offload or reinstall instead, which does log you out.
Why does clearing cache fix so many random Facebook problems?
A corrupted or stale cache is a common cause of a stuck feed, images that will not load, or settings that appear not to have saved. Clearing it forces a clean reload from Facebook's servers.
Is this different from clearing cookies?
Related but distinct. Cache stores content and files; cookies store login and session data. Clearing cookies will log you out; clearing cache generally will not.
