How to Get on Facebook Marketplace

Get access to Facebook Marketplace from the app or website, why the tab sometimes does not appear, and the account requirements that decide eligibility.

Updated

Quick answer

Where to click

Mobile app
  1. bottom navigation bar
  2. Marketplace (storefront icon)
Desktop
  1. facebook.com left sidebar
  2. Marketplace

Facebook renames these menus periodically. If a label does not match, read the screen you are on rather than forcing this exact wording.

If Marketplace is not visible on desktop, it is at facebook.com/marketplace directly. If it is missing from the mobile app entirely, see the eligibility section below before assuming it is a bug.

Requirements

Marketplace uses your existing Facebook account — there is nothing separate to sign up for. The requirements that actually gate access:

  • Account age. Very new accounts are sometimes restricted from Marketplace access or selling specifically, as a spam-prevention measure.
  • Minimum age on the account. Marketplace requires accounts old enough to meet Facebook's commerce terms, which is stricter in some regions than Facebook's general minimum age.
  • Region. Marketplace is not available in every country. This is a hard platform limit, not an account setting.
  • Account type. A business Page cannot use Marketplace the way a personal profile can — buying and selling is built around personal profiles specifically.

If the icon is missing

Work through these in order:

  1. Update the app. Marketplace access has been part of app-version-gated rollouts before; an old version can simply lack the entry point.
  2. Check the desktop site directly at facebook.com/marketplace — this bypasses the mobile navigation entirely and confirms whether it is an app-specific display issue or account-level.
  3. Confirm your region. If you are traveling or using a VPN, Marketplace may reflect your apparent location's availability rather than your home region's.
  4. Check account standing. A restricted or under-review account can lose Marketplace access specifically while the rest of Facebook keeps working — see account recovery if that turns out to be the case.

If the icon is present but a search or listing errors out, that is a different problem — see Marketplace not working.

Once you have access

Buying and selling are separate flows from the same tab:

  • To buy: browse or search, set your location radius, and message sellers directly — no account setup beyond having Facebook.
  • To sell: select Create new listing, choose a category, and fill in details. Selling has its own requirements covered in how to sell on Facebook Marketplace.

For how the whole system fits together — local-only visibility, messaging, and payment — see how Facebook Marketplace works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a separate Marketplace account?
No. Marketplace runs on your existing Facebook account — there is no separate signup. If you have Facebook, you have Marketplace unless a specific eligibility rule blocks it.
Why is the Marketplace icon missing from my app?
Usually an outdated app version, an account age or region restriction, or a business/child account type that Marketplace does not support. Update the app first.
Can I use Marketplace without an account?
No — browsing and listing both require being logged into a Facebook account. There is no logged-out or guest access.
Is Marketplace available in every country?
No. It is unavailable in some countries and regions entirely, independent of anything on your specific account.
