Facebook Support: Phone Number, Live Chat, and What Is Real
Facebook has no general public customer-service number. Match hacked accounts, reports, business issues, and emergencies to the right official support route.

There is no general public Facebook customer-service phone number
Meta's phone-support notice says that Meta products, including Facebook, do not have a general public phone number for customer service. A number in a search result, advertisement, comment, or unsolicited message is not a trusted Facebook support route.
That statement is narrower than “Meta never uses a phone.” Meta says specialized phone support may exist for certain jurisdictions, products, or features. Product-specific callbacks, legal contact points, and account-specific support are legitimate only when they are published on the exact Meta Help page for the issue or displayed inside the authenticated product. Do not use an outside number to reach them.
Choose the channel by the problem
General question or setting
Start at the Facebook Help Center. Search for the exact feature or error message and follow the self-service steps for your platform. Meta documents the centralized support hub for the Facebook and Instagram mobile apps; use it only if it appears in your app.
Separately, the Meta AI support assistant may appear in eligible Facebook or Instagram app contexts and in the desktop Help Center where Meta has made it available. Login-access help began with select cases in the United States and Canada. Availability and capabilities vary by rollout and account, and seeing the assistant does not promise human support, a particular action, or a response time.
Hacked account or lost login
Go directly to facebook.com/hacked, preferably from a device used for that account before. If Meta cannot find the account, use account identification. The hacked-account incident guide covers email security, session cleanup, and damage review; the broader recovery guide covers other loss-of-access branches.
Do not route a takeover through a number from search. Meta's recovery process adapts to the account and evidence available, and no support channel can guarantee recovery.
Harmful content, impersonation, or an enforcement notice
Use the report control attached to the profile, Page, post, message, listing, or other content. Meta's content-reporting Help page explains the available routes.
Use the Support Inbox to check reports about others and alerts or messages from Facebook. It is a case-and-notice surface, not a general live-chat queue. A report may not receive an individual reply, and an available review or appeal depends on the notice and issue.
App bug or broken feature
Use Help & support → Report a problem inside Facebook, or the support hub if the account shows it. Include the exact screen, time, device or browser, steps that reproduce the issue, and a screenshot with private information removed. Keep any reference number, but do not assume submission guarantees a response or fix.
Advertiser, business, or Meta Verified issue
Sign in first, then use the support surface attached to the affected asset:
- Advertisers can start from Meta Business Support Home.
- An eligible active Meta Verified subscriber can use the verified-support route shown for that subscription.
- A Page or business should use the help entry displayed for the specific Page, portfolio, ad account, transaction, or product.
Chat, email, callbacks, and case creation can depend on the product, account, subscription, region, device, and issue. If an option is not displayed after sign-in, do not assume another account qualifies or that a third party can activate it.
Emergency, law-enforcement, and legal routes are separate
Facebook support is not an emergency service. If someone is in immediate physical danger or a crime is in progress, contact the local emergency service or law-enforcement agency first, then use Facebook's content-reporting tools when it is safe to do so.
If money was sent or a payment method was exposed, contact the bank, card issuer, or payment provider promptly. Preserve the profile or Page URL, post or message links, timestamps, transaction details, and screenshots before content changes. In the United States, scams can also be reported to the FTC or FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center.
Authorized agencies seeking account records should use Meta's Law Enforcement Online Request System, not consumer support. Copyright, trademark, privacy, regulatory, and other legal issues have their own forms or jurisdiction-specific contact points in the Help Center. For example, Meta publishes a separate EU points-of-support form for people in the European Union. These routes do not create a general consumer phone line, but the lack of that line does not make every legal or jurisdictional route unavailable.
How to spot fake Facebook support
Leave the conversation if a supposed support representative asks you to:
- read back a password, login code, recovery code, or authenticator code;
- install remote-access software or share your screen;
- pay a recovery, verification, protection, or refund fee;
- move the conversation to a personal email, messaging account, or unrelated website;
- transfer money by gift card, bank or wire transfer, cryptocurrency, or payment app.
The FTC warns that support scammers place sites and ads in search results, request remote access, and use hard-to-reverse payment methods. A polished logo, sponsored placement, case number, or quick answer does not prove that the contact belongs to Meta.
If you already shared a code or password, secure the connected email account, change reused passwords, end unfamiliar sessions, and follow the hacked-account sequence. If you granted remote access, disconnect the device from the network, remove the remote-access tool, update security software, and run a scan before using it for recovery.
Official starting points
Use Meta's Facebook Help Center for self-service and the official phone-support notice to verify the no-general-public-number boundary. The support options shown inside the affected, signed-in account are the authority for what that account can access.
